Standing on your High Castle

His love is the light to our lives.
You’re as real to me as bedrock beneath my feet, like a castle on a cliff, my forever firm fortress, my mountain of hiding, my pathway of escape my tower of rescue where none can reach me.
Psalms 18:2 (TPT)
I’m really excited about Psalms 18; this is an incredible resource of comfort and hope! Psalms 18 basically has five sections: Powerful Praise (v.1-6) Powerful Presence (v.7-17), Powerful Love (v.18-31), Powerful Protection (v.32-45), and Powerful Praise (v.46-50). David wrote this Psalm from a place of love and victory. His enemies were conquered, he had rights to the throne, and kingdom unrest was over. He didn’t have to run anymore. Victory was his, and he wanted everyone to know that God deserved the praise. His love for God oozes from this chapter. His love for God was always passionate and tangible. He did not hesitate to proclaim praise to the God that was his Bedrock, Fortress, hiding place, path of escape, tower of rescue, Shield, brightness, and champion!
All I need to do is to call to you, singing to you, the praiseworthy God. When I do, I’m safe and sound in you.”( v.3) I’ve heard many times that God is good, but He is not safe. Have you heard that? I don’t agree, for over and over again, especially in Psalms, God is proven to be our safety. He is the One we run to and hide from the chaos and calamity. He is the One that wraps around us and brings us protection.
“My sobs came right into your heart and you turned your face to rescue me.” (v.6)
Yes! As I mother I remember many times when my children would run to me for rescue. I would cup their faces in my hands and assure them that they are safe and I would protect them at all cost. This is what God does for us. He cups our face into His hands and brings us into His wrap-around presence, giving us the safety of heart that assures us of His eternal love and safety. He faces every enemy with an anger that burns on my behalf. He is so powerful for us that it is like “fierce flames that leap from his mouth, erupting with blazing, burning coals as smoke and fire encircled him. He stretched Heaven’s curtain open and came to my defense.” (v.8) You’ve proabably had some of those “mama bear” moments, right? I have. Throughout the lives of all my children there have been times when I have rushed to their defense in such a powerful way that no one was willing to mess with me. Imagine what God does for us; so much more!
“He then reached down from heaven, all the way from the sky to the sea. He reached down into my darkness to rescue me!” (v.16) Wow! What a God we have!
God’s love for us is beyond measure, even more than a mother’s love for her children. It’s hard to imagine, for I know my love for children is forever in my heart. I believe the best for them, I want all good, prosperity, love, courage and hope for them. I pray for them. Because of this unmeasurable love God has for us, he has equipped us with victory. “You are the revelation light in my darkness, and in your brightness I can see the path ahead. With you as my strength I can crush an enemy horde, advancing through every stronghold that stands in front of me.” (v.28-29) This is the talk of love. When we believe in who God is, we know we have victory. His love is the light to our lives. The brightness of love always prevails and shows us the way. His strength becomes our ability to crush every enemy-fear, jealousy, defeat, lies, depression, bitterness….the list goes on. “The Almighty is alive and couquers all!” (v.46)
The last few verses are really cool too. I added my name to them, and encourage you to do the same. Commit to reading Psalms 18 everyday for the next several months and record all the changes you witness in your life and those around you.
He rescues me, Bethany, from my enemies; he lifts me up high and keeps me out of reach, far from the grasp of my violent foe. This is why I thank God with praises! I will sing my song to the highest God, so all among the nations will hear me. God has appointed me, Bethany, and rescued me time and time again with magnificent miracles. You, God, have been merciful and kind to me, your anointed one. This favor will be forever seen upon your loving servant, Bethany, and to all my descendants.
Praise God today and share this post with others that you know. Today is your day to claim victory!
