Chasing Wisdom

But the one who always listens to me will live undisturbed in a heavenly peace.
“Within these sayings will be found the revelation of wisdom and the impartation of spiritual understanding. Use them as keys to unlock the treasures of true knowledge. Proverbs 1:2 (TPT)

My goal for the month of January is to study all of Proverbs and James. It’s going pretty well so far, and even though I’ve read these books before I feel like I’m getting new revelation. Brian Simmons, The Passion Translation guy, gave me the idea to circle the word fool every time I come upon it in Proverbs. Then, after reading ask myself and God if the the “fool” is a description of myself. If so, pray that God will turn that fool into a women of wisdom! Nobody wants to be thought of as a fool, of course, so I see a lot of value in confronting the issue with God and getting it squared away pronto.

Verse two really caught my eye as it immediately gives us the answer to wisdom. Use what is learned in the sayings of Proverbs as keys to unlock the treasures of true knowledge! It goes on to say: “Those who cling to these words will receive discipline to demonstrate wisdom in every relationship and to choose what is right and just and fair.”(verse 3)

We are promised that the book of Proverbs will give us great skill to teach the immature and make them wise. It will give our youth understanding of their design and destiny. In other words it will teach them who they are and give them a purpose. For those that are more mature and have already tapped into wisdom; it will only give them more. To gain wisdom, we must come to a place of unconditional obedience and devotion to God.

Jesus is wisdom, and he is chasing after us because he wants relationship with us. He wants to share who he is with who we are. He wants to merge his life with ours and walk with us always. He wants us to live in the reality of his love. “Come back to your senses and be restored to reality.” (verse 23)

How does one come to their senses? I think we all want to know! Listen carefully to verse 33: “But the one who always listens to me will live undisturbed in a heavenly peace. Free from fear, confident and courageous, you will rest unafraid and sheltered from the storms of life.” When we learn to come to our senses, we have learned to rest in the Word of Jesus. It is Jesus and his Word that brings us to a place of rising above the chaos and the fear that circles all around us.

For the Lord has a hidden storehouse of wisdom made accessible to his godly lovers. He becomes your personal body-guard as you follow his ways, protecting and guarding you as you choose what is right.” (Proverbs 2: 7-8, TPT) I think this is referring to a kind of protection that few of us tap into, because we all experience pain and hardship in this world. Few of us are able to rise about those hardships in such a way that we know he is still there being our personal body guard, protecting us. It takes wisdom to know this and move ahead with choosing what is right.

I’m excited to actively chase after wisdom. I’ll let you know how it changes my life. I challenge you today to chase wisdom too. Ask God to show you the way of wisdom and to make it clear to you. It’s going to be so good!
